I. Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of the student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers is to provide resources and support to the undergraduate students in the Chemical Engineering Department of the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
II. Statement of Nondiscrimination:
The University of California, Los Angeles student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, in accordance with applicable Federal and State law, and University Policy, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, medical condition (cancer related), ancestry, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, or status as a Vietnam era Veteran or special disabled Veteran.
III. Eligibility for membership and voting privileges:
In order to be a voting member of The University of California, Los Angeles student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a person need only to be a currently registered student of the University of California, Los Angeles, complete the membership application, and pay the membership fees.
IV. Organization of the group:
The University of California, Los Angeles student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers Executive Board shall be comprised of elected positions and appointed positions. Elected positions shall be chosen by a majority vote of the voting members of the group at a general meeting of the group, during the Spring quarter of the Academic year, at which there is a quorum of voting members. Applicants for elected positions must be voting members of the group. A quorum of voting members shall be defined as having over 50% of the eligible voting membership of the group. The term of the elected officers begins on the first day following the end of the Spring quarter of the Academic year, and shall end on the last day of the Spring quarter of the subsequent Academic year. Appointed positions shall be chosen by the president. Applicants must be voting members of the group and must state their intention to hold the appointed position during the general meeting at which the president is elected.
The elected positions of The University of California, Los Angeles student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers are as follows:
1. President
The president of The University of California, Los Angeles student
chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers shall preside
over all meetings of the general membership of the group and the Executive
Board. The president is responsible for appointing all appointed positions
in the group according to the guidelines contained herein.
2. Internal Vice-President
The internal vice-president of The University of California, Los
Angeles student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers
shall be responsible for overseeing the internal affairs of the group,
including the operation of the following committees: Activities, Education,
and Publications. The internal vice-president shall preside over meetings
of the general membership and the Executive Board when the president
is absent.
3. External Vice-President
The external vice-president of The University of California, Los
Angeles student chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers
shall be responsible for overseeing the external affairs of the group,
including the operation of the following committees: Industrial Relations,
Campus Relations, and Publicity. The external vice-president shall
preside over meetings of the general membership and the Executive
Board when the president and the internal vice president are absent.
4. Treasurer
The treasurer of The University of California, Los Angeles student
chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers is responsible
for the fiscal operations of the group. The treasurer shall be responsible
for the annual budget, and collection of membership dues.
5. Secretary
The secretary shall be responsible for maintaining all records
of the group, including the constitution, the applicable guidelines
of the University, the Chemical Engineering department, and the national
organization of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the list
of voting members, and the minutes of all meetings of the general
membership and the Executive Board.
V. Financial Disclosure:
The Executive Board of the UCLA student chapter of AIChE will, upon request, make available the financial records of the group to all authorized University officials.
VI. Procedures for amending the constitution:
A three step process must be followed in order to amend the constitution:
1. Amendments must be proposed to the Executive Board during a normal meeting of that board.
2. Proposed amendments must pass a vote of the Executive Board by a two- thirds majority.
3. Proposed amendments must then be ratified by the general membership by passing a majority vote at the next general meeting.
